The History of Vancouver Date Hookups
Residing on the most South Western corner of Mainland Canada is beautiful Vancouver.
Vancouver is unique for a Canadian city, both in its climate and culture. Vancouver is
visited my millions of tourists from all over the world every year. There are unlimited
things to do and see in the Lower Mainland (The urban area surrounding Vancouver). The
scenic ocean and mountain views are breath-taking, the beaches are beautiful and rarely over
crowded, even in the summer time, there are local attractions like Stanley Park, The
Vancouver Aquarium, Playland and The Telus World of Science (formally known as Science
World). Downtown is home to various world class hotels, restaurants and clubs. Vancouver is
truly an adult playground at its finest. Vancouver´s skyline and social landscape has
been rapidly growing since the city was preparing for and hosted the 2010 winter Olympics.
Vancouver has been known for 70´s and 80´s thriving punk scene and underground
punk and rock and roll bars. While punk venues are still popular in Vancouver, night clubs
and dance music has taken over. Vancouver´s cityscape seems to be changing at such a
rapid pace. The business and commercial regions that have long primarily been in
Vancouver´s Westend, has been spilling into the downtown eastside and Gastown. New
high rises, bars, shops, restaurants and boutiques have been opening and reshaping the
eastern neighbourhoods in metropolitan Vancouver. The local film industry and some of
Canada´s top universities also attract new residents and business to the blossoming
city.
Granville street runs from the North border all the way to the south end of Vancouver. The
most visit part of Granville Street is in the downtown core, aka The Granville Strip. This
stretch of Granville runs from Pacific Street to Dunsmuir Street. This stretch is lined with
shops, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs and venues. Traffic is closed from Pacific to Robson
on Friday and Saturday nights to accommodate the masses of people out on street bar and
pizza hopping. This is where a majority of people go to dance and experience some of largest
and busiest nightclubs in Vancouver.
Home to a majority of Vancouver´s gay clubs and businesses, Davie Street or simply The
Gay Village as it´s sometimes called is a playground for LGBT+ patrons. Many of the
clubs on Davie Street feature live music events and world classes DJs. There are also plenty
of quality fast food, fine dining, casual cafes and boutiques interwoven into the framework
of Davie Street´s culture. This is another one of those districts that has something
for everyone and works for what every mood you and your date are in.
Gastown is one of the more aesthetically pleasing districts of Vancouver if you like older
architecture that feels closer to turn of the 20th century rather than the 22nd century as
the rest of the cities towering glass structures can feel like Gastown is cobblestone-lined
district with a mixture or art galleries, bistros, cafes, designer retail shops, nightclubs
and upscale bars.
Kitsilano or Kits, is Vancouver´s most sought after neighbourhood to live in.
It´s usually occupied mainly by the hippies of the Baby Boomer generation, but with
inflation and the Baby Boomer´s aging and becoming professionals, Kitsilano has
shifted into more of a family neighbourhood the past 25 or so years. Just west of Kitsilano
is the University of British Columbia, so even though kitsilano is not a very
nightclub-oriented restaurant, if you´re on Broadway or 4th avenue on a weekend night,
you will definitely run into at least a few groups partying UBC students. 4th and Broadway
is also where you´ll find the majority of the bar restaurants in Kitsilano. Because of
it´s nature, this part of town is usually better suited for a brunch, lunch or casual
dinner date.
Commercial drive is probably Vancouver´s most eclectic neighbourhood. "The Drive", is
frequently the city´s more bohemian residents. It´s also a great place for
dining and cafes. This street has as much turnover of some businesses but other´s have
been there for 20+ years. Commercial drive is also both a very Italian and East African
neighbourhood with multiple mom ´n´ pop restaurants, cafes and salons and beauty
supply stores. There are some bars on Commercial drive, but most of them are
bar/restaurants, so this is more of a dinner date neighbourhood.
Have fun exploring the best venues and establishments Vancouver has to offer.
